There are so many incredible apps for creating and tracking habits, including Habit Bull, Streaks, and even Spar, where you can compete with your friends on who can keep their word in order to win prizes.

Recording artist Kehlani is even launching one by the name of Flora, where she will be a co-founder.

I prefer to keep track of habits by hand via the Best Self Journal and am proud of the results of my commitments this year to exercise, sleep, meditate, read, and write. I still struggle with waking up early enough, but I’ll get there eventually.

Over the years, I’ve read a lot about habits, but no author, mentor, or friend has been as inspiring or stimulating in the area of structured self improvement (the tangible things!) than James Clear.

His last name defines his communication style and today his first book came out all about his favorite subject, habits.

If you’re struggling to create the routines and systems you need to accomplish your greatest professional or personal goals, then I’m sure you will enjoy reading Atomic Habits as much as I have enjoyed reading James’ articles these past few years.

For those not as into books, you may find James’ simple, short writing effective to attain mastery in whatever you desire.

Here are five of my favorite articles James has written over the years –
