Earlier this week, Khalid became the artist with the most monthly listeners on Spotify.

With others who have held this crowned position in the past been Ariana Grande, Drake, Ed Sheeran, etc., I assume Khalid is the youngest both in terms of age and years active as an artist. He debuted in 2016 at the age of 17.

The catchiness of Khalid’s songwriting speaks for itself. His ascent to the #1 spot though is a testament to the power of a bold A&R strategy led by the brilliance of his A&R Tunji Balogun and manager Courtney Stewart consisting of LOTS of features.

Khalid has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Marshmello, Logic, Alessia Cara, Alina Baraz, Swae Lee, Kendrick Lamar, Lorde, SZA, Post Malone, Normani, 6lack, Ty Dolla $ign, Halsey, Benny Blanco, Kane Brown, Disclosure, and more I’m sure I’m forgetting… All in the past 3 years?!

These features (both on his records and theirs) have opened his brand to new fanbases and grown his audience in the process… To the tune of over 50MM monthly listeners.

While not every collaboration will be a hit as many of Khalid’s songs have been, the impact of features on the streaming algorithm is one of the best propellants of discovery and growth for any artist today.

On a separate note, does anybody know if there is a chart for the artists with the most monthly listeners? I haven’t found it before and instead find myself scrolling down in an artist’s profile to see where they stand.
